ASCE SEI & ICESNA University Engagement Visit Across Indonesia

As part of the ASCE SEI Global Engagement Committee initiative, ICESNA members conducted a series of university visits across Eastern Indonesia and Bandung to explore potential academic collaboration and sustainable professional engagement activities with civil engineering departments.

The visits included brainstorming meetings and open forum discussions with university leaders, lecturers, and students from Christian, Catholic, Muhammadiyah, Polytechnic, and State universities. Discussions focused on current engineering and construction practices in the United States, as well as emerging topics such as 3D BIM, Performance-Based Design, and international engineering standards.

Participants expressed strong interest in strengthening collaboration with international engineering professionals through guest lectures, technical webinars, research supervision, professional engineering programs, and future ASCE Student Chapter development initiatives.

The activities also introduced ICESNA’s ongoing collaboration programs with Indonesian universities and opened opportunities for future academic partnerships, technical knowledge sharing, and professional development initiatives.

The five universities in Eastern Indonesia greatly appreciated the opportunity to host a U.S. engineering professional for academic and professional exchange activities. The visits included small group brainstorming meetings and open forum discussions with civil engineering department leaders, lecturers, and students to share insights on global engineering practices, professional development, and emerging industry topics.
